Accounting and finance businesses have scored in this year’s Best Workplaces list with firms across the micro, small and medium categories named among Australia’s top employers.

Specialist recruitment agency SustainAbility Consulting was one of the high achievers, coming second in the micro category while Sydney boutique advisory firm Bravure notched up fourth in the small-business category.

Compiled by the Great Place to Work organisation, the finalists were determined by employee questionnaires about the extent to which their business created a positive environment where workers could reach their full potential.

To ensure the surveys were representative, the Great Place to Work organisation requires enough people in each business to respond so that results are accurate to a 95 per cent confidence level and a 5 per cent margin of error.

SustainAbility Consulting – micro – 2nd

Accounting and finance recruitment agency SustainAbility Consulting achieved second in the micro category for businesses with 10-29 employees, with 100 per cent of its employees declaring it was a great place to work.

SustainAbility Consulting director Martin O'Donnell said the firm was always designed with employees and their development at its heart.

“Ever since we first set up SustainAbility, we’ve always wanted to make sure that the business was a place where the team would look forward to coming to work,” he said.

“Regardless of where they were in their careers, we wanted everyone to be supported by a fun team, with excellent training, market leading remuneration and amazing incentive trips.

“We wanted to ensure we had really good staff retention and career growth as these are incredibly important to us and we love seeing our employees fulfilling their ambitions with the company.”

Inspire Accountants – micro – 9th

Inspire Accountants provides tax and accounting advice and describe themselves as life-changers who work with young families who run small businesses as well as clients who have revenue up to $10 million.

The firm’s founder, Ben Walker, said that there had been a focus on developing a positive workplace environment.

“It’s pretty humbling to hear that we are certified as a Great Place to Work,” said Mr Walker.

“It definitely did not happen by accident and really, credit is due to every single team member for adding to a great culture, I truly love the energy and culture we get to enjoy at Inspire.”

SEIVA – Micro – 13th

Melbourne-based firm SEIVA provides business advisory, financial advisory, accounting and tax services, as well as talks and training.

Director at SEIVA, Brent Szalay, said that when developing the firm the goal was to create a space where people could achieve their best.

“Our vision was to build a fun environment where our team would love to be; a place they could thrive,” said Mr Szalay.

“If we can excel at influencing those around us to do more of what they love, connect them with a like-minded community and show them how to overcome their professional hurdles and personal barriers, we believe we can make the meaningful impact we want to make with our culture as our proudest asset.”

Bravure Group – small – 4th

Boutique advisory firm Bravure provides debt advisory, strategy and consulting as well as insolvency services.

Founded in 1998, Bravure moved into debt advisory in 2010 and launched its insolvency servicing in 2017.

Executive director of Bravure, Tom O'Malley-Jones, said that seeing staff progress was an indication of a positive workplace.

“The Great Place to Work certification is a testament to the entire team who all contribute to the incredible culture at Bravure,” he said.

“With genuine care and attention paid to the development of staff individually, our proudest moments are seeing them progress into senior roles and beyond.

“This leads to the best outcome for our clients and a fast-paced, fun environment for the team.”

Robert Half – medium – 6th

Finance and accounting recruitment agency Robert Half is one of the largest staffing agencies that undertakes extensive research on workplace issues and identifying employment trends.

Senior managing director of Robert Half APAC, David Jones, said that its employees were the ones who created the positive culture and are what make the firm stand out from its competitors.

“Our people are truly our greatest asset and this is what differentiates us in the marketplace,” he said.

“We work hard to ensure that we deliver a working environment where our staff can bring their full self to work and feel included, challenged, and valued for their contributions.

“The recognition that Robert Half is part of Australia’s best workplaces 2022 is a testament to the culture that each of our employees have all helped to establish and we are proud to showcase the excellent work they do for our people, our clients and candidates, and the communities where we live and work.”

Intuit – medium – 11th

Technology platform Intuit was founded in 1983 and has grown to have over 9,000 employees globally and provides one of the leading cloud accounting systems, QuickBooks.

Intuit QuickBooks HR business partner Nada Wassef said that making it on to the list was a proud achievement, particularly with the tough employment market nationally.

“The current climate of staff shortages and retention challenges makes this award recognition even more meaningful,” she said.

“We’re so honoured that our people feel valued and recognise the business’ investment in their wellbeing and growth.

“Receiving this ranking is a positive affirmation of our hard work.”
