The firm, which has 15 Partners and more than 100 staff, had been seeking a cloud-based workpapers platform but the other options on the market had significant drawbacks. Some offered cloud storage but nevertheless required software to be installed on desktop computers. Others met the firm’s cloud criteria but fell short because they were created with much smaller firms in mind.
In July 2021, the firm settled on MyWorkpapers and is now using it across its full range of tax and business advisory services.
“There was some resistance from staff members to start with,” said Rebecca Reaney, manager at Moore Perth, “but, four months in and everyone is now really happy with it.
“The bookkeeping team are seeing the greatest benefit now as they are seeing files roll over from month to month and are saving a huge amount of time.
“Our other teams are looking forward to seeing the same roll-over benefits next year.”
She said that, after the first month when everything needed to be set up, the team found everything became much quicker and more secure with the ability to lock-down workpapers once the job was complete.
She added, “the Partner sign-off process is much smoother too and a lot more straightforward, with less risk involved.”
While Western Australia has not been in lockdown during the time Moore Perth has been using MyWorkpapers, the firm is moving increasingly towards more flexible working methods, including working from home.
“We can already see that it is going to be better if something happens and we have to implement full home working again.
“When we were in lockdown, we were able to get by, but it wasn’t always the smoothest process and just was not as easy as it would have been with MyWorkpapers in place.
“I’m working from home today and am logged on to MyWorkpapers, and it’s definitely a much smoother process,” said Rebecca.
“We’re both better prepared and set up for more flexible ways of working at the same time.”
When asked what she would say to other firms considering implementing MyWorkpapers, Rebecca said: “We would recommend it. If you are going for a cloud strategy, we looked at a lot of alternative solutions, but MyWorkpapers was the only one that we could find that was properly cloud-based and integrated with Xero and the other systems that we use.”
