Boutique makes senior hires post-merger, plans to go national

Appointments

A Melbourne-based boutique firm has recruited a former mid-tier partner to launch a Sydney office in what is just the first step of its east coast expansion plans.

Last week, business consulting and personal wealth advisory firm, The Practice, officially opened its Sydney office, headed up by ex-HLB Mann Judd partner Matt Gardiner.

They have also hired ex-KPMG corporate tax consultant George Andrianakos to work with Mr Gardiner in Sydney.

This announcement follows the news last month that The Practice completed a merger with Victorian firm, Knightstone, welcoming Colin Linke to the team.

Co-founding partner Jason Cunningham told Accountants Daily a key focus for The Practice is to be united across existing offices and any future offices.

“We don't want to be a Melbourne office and a Sydney office. We really want to be a true national practice,” Mr Cunningham said.

“The key for us was to make sure that whether you go to The Practice in Melbourne or in Sydney, the experience would be exactly the same. So in the onboarding process of Matt, he came down to Melbourne and really experienced our complete service offering.”

Looking ahead, Mr Cunningham pointed to both organic growth and acquisitions as possibilities in existing and new locations.

“Our growth plan can head one of two ways. We'll continue to grow it organically, and we’re also on the lookout for suitable acquisitions that will accelerate our growth,” he said

“I can definitely see within the next two to three years a Brisbane or Gold Coast presence, just depending on what pops out. I wouldn’t be surprised if we move in to Canberra as well. I think there's a good strong market there in Canberra.”

Mr Cunningham also flagged the potential to eventually move into regional parts of Australia.

“Areas like Newcastle and Geelong, these sort of satellite cities where we see great opportunity not only for us to set up the business, but there’s great talent in those areas and some great clients and it gives us that opportunity to really penetrate the market.”
