The mid-tier firm has recruited former Fairfax Media general manager corporate strategy, Andrew McFarlane, as a partner in its Sydney office.
Mr McFarlane, who will start on 1 March, previously worked at BDO in London, New York, United Arab Emirates and Sydney.
Partner-in-charge of BDO Sydney’s advisory group and leader of the corporate finance team Sebastian Stevens said Andrew’s appointment was a sign of confidence in the BDO advisory team and its growth aspirations.
“Andrew’s arrival will certainly bolster the team. His skills complement those of our current line-up and his depth of experience in M&A transactions will help us strengthen our leading position in the mid-market,” Mr Stevens said.
“At BDO he will drive mergers and acquisitions transactions and provide client services in acquisitions, divestments, mergers and demergers, integration and separation assistance, and strategic advice.”
Grant Saxon, office managing partner at BDO Sydney also welcomed Mr McFarlane to the firm.
“There is growing demand for BDO’s advisory services and Andrew’s appointment solidifies our corporate finance go-to-market expertise,” Mr Saxon said.
“There is a definite demand for our services across a range of sectors. The growth is coming both from an upturn in transactions entered into by our existing clients; as well as new opportunities driven by BDO’s growing market presence in Sydney and nationally.”
