CPA Australia appoints 3 new directors

Appointments

A big four partner is among three new director appointments to CPA Australia’s board.

By Jotham Lian 11 minute read

CPA Australia has announced the appointment of Professor Yew Kee Ho, Warren McRae, and Bernard Che-Wai Poon to its board of directors.

The professional body’s appointments council, comprising members elected from CPA Australia’s divisional councils, have also re-elected Professor Dale Pinto as a board director.

Each director has been appointed for a three-year term commencing on 1 October, with the exception of Mr Poon, who is a casual vacancy appointment for a one-year period.

Their appointments will bring the number of directors on the board to the maximum of 10, following the retirement of Su-Yen Wong and Ric De Santi as directors from 30 September, and the resignation of Robyn Erskine earlier this year.

The new directors have extensive experience within the accounting profession, with Professor Ho a current professor of accounting at the Singapore Institute of Technology, and the former head of the department of accounting at the National University of Singapore.

Incoming director Mr McRae is a senior executive with experience in risk, governance, digital and technology innovation, and was the former managing director and global chief operating officer at Barclays Private Bank.

Mr Poon is currently a partner at EY Hong Kong, specialising in valuations and financial modelling with experience in the valuation of businesses, shares and intangible assets.

Merran Kelsall, who was appointed as president last October, has also been re-elected as president and chair of the board, alongside deputy presidents Professor Pinto and Rosemary Sinclair.

“I congratulate Professor Pinto, Professor Yew Kee Ho, Warren McRae and Bernard CheWai Poon on their appointment to the Board,” said Ms Kelsall.

“They are each highly respected in the accounting profession and share the board’s strong commitment to deliver value and services to members.”

Ms Kelsall also thanked Ms Wong and Mr De Santi for their contribution to the board. Ms Wong has been a director since 2018, while Mr De Santi has served as a director since 2017 and as co-deputy president since 2020.

The 10 members of the CPA Australia board from 1 October 2021 are:

  • Merran Kelsall FCPA, president and chairman
  • Professor Dale Pinto FCPA, deputy president
  • Rosemary Sinclair AM FCPA, deputy president
  • Michaela Browning, director
