Matt Darby joins Grant Thornton from KPMG, where he was the national lead for the retail sector.
Prior to joining KPMG, Mr Darby was the retail and products industry lead at Publicis Sapient, following more than 20 years at Accenture where he was their retail industry lead for ANZ.
“I’m extremely excited to become a part of Grant Thornton and link up with such a talented group of retail experts,” Mr Darby said on the move.
“The retail sector has faced significant challenges throughout the pandemic, and this has brought forward major change within the industry. The retailers who rebound best will be those who can harness new technologies and the data at their fingertips – that’s where Grant Thornton’s retail consulting offering fits.
“Grant Thornton has more than 130 offices across the globe, providing access to a wealth of knowledge for our clients. I look forward to leveraging our expertise both in Australia and overseas, and applying these learnings to the Australian market.”.
Grant Thornton said the firm’s retail practice continues to grow significantly and the acquisition of Mr Darby brings a unique set of skills for its retail clients to utilise.
“At Grant Thornton, retail is in our DNA, we are retailers first and consultants second, and Matt epitomises our philosophy,” Jamie Downs, partner and national head of management consulting at Grant Thornton, said.
“Throughout his career he has worked within every segment of the retail sector and the supply chain. During this time, Matt has worked with Consumer & Retail industry clients across the UK, Europe, North America and the APAC region.
“Matt is renowned for his expertise in improving capabilities for retailers across the complete value chain. He delivers tech enabled transformation programs working alongside his clients to enable the new digital and data capabilities their customers require. We know these skills are fundamental for the future of retail, which is why we are so excited by Matt’s addition to our retail business.”
