International audit, tax and advisory firm Mazars has promoted Matthew Ashley to lead managing partner of its Sydney office.
The move sees Mr Ashley step up to a solo leadership role after being joint managing partner alongside Jim Mascitelli, who is stepping down.
Mr Ashley’s promotion comes after he won Partner of the Year at the 2022 Australian Accounting Awards in July.
Mr Mascitelli said that Mr Ashley’s knowledge of the firm would benefit his leadership in advancing the business.
“Matthew will leverage his experience as joint managing partner of the Sydney office to continue to build a client-centric approach and strong growth trajectory in Australia,” he said.
“His understanding of Mazars accounting and outsourcing division, along with his extensive experience at Mazars spanning 20 years, position him well to drive continued progress and success for Mazars.
“His experience in delivering clients with a highly tailored service offering and empowering, developing and training our next generation of leaders, add to the competencies gained in his time as joint managing partner of Mazars Sydney.”
Mr Ashley joined the firm in 2001 as a cadet and worked his way up within the firm to be named partner in 2011. He has held multiple positions on the Mazars Asia-Pacific board as well as the Australian National Board.
Mr Ashley said that he was looking forward to growing and developing Mazars to position it at the forefront of the accounting industry.
“In this ever-changing world of business, innovation in the accounting space requires a solid understanding of the industry’s needs, wants and demands, as well as an ability to anticipate the future state of the industry,” he said.
“This is attained by operating daily with our core values top-of-mind, being future focused, having meaningful relationships, endless learning, engaged teams and an entrepreneurial spirit.”
Mr Ashley also thanked Mr Mascitelli for his efforts as managing partner.
“Jim steps down from managing partner having prioritised both our clients and our people while ensuring continued growth and steering the way through the pandemic,” he said.
“We are incredibly thankful to Jim for his efforts in building the firm to where it is today.”
Mazars is an internationally integrated partnership, specialising in audit, accountancy, advisory and tax. It operates in over 90 countries globally and has more than 44,000 employees.
