The Financial Reporting Council (FRC) has appointed an experienced EY Oceania climate change and sustainability partner as a part-time member for a three-year term.
Emma Herd joins with over 20 years of experience in finance, sustainability, and non-financial reporting, where she focused on commercial climate change finance and investment.
The Albanese government said it was dedicated to establishing a clear and trustworthy framework for climate disclosure for businesses and Ms Herd’s expertise would ensure the FRC was consistent with emerging international standards.
“Her appointment will continue the high level of skills and experience available to the FRC to help ensure that the key sectors of our economy are effectively regulated,” said a government spokesperson.
Ms Herd had worked as an environment commissioner in the development and delivery of commercial climate change finance and investment programs, as well as in campaign and political advocacy strategies.
She joined EY after more than a decade at Westpac after studying at the Australian National University. Ms Herd holds positions on the boards of the Australian Sustainable Finance Initiative Steering Committee, the Green Building Council of Australia, GreenStar Advisory Committee, the Queensland Climate Change Advisory Council, and the Land Restoration Fund Investment Panel.
The FRC oversees the procedures for defining accounting and auditing standards in the public and commercial sectors as well as offering strategic guidance on the quality of audits.
