William Buck director Jeffrey Luckins has been appointed as the Victorian State Council Chair of the Governance Institute of Australia.
The selection comes after Mr Luckins had served on the Victorian State Council since 2015 and was a regular presenter and convenor at events such as the Victorian Company Secretaries Discussion Group.
“Chairing the Victorian State Council of the Governance Institute in 2023, my clear purpose will be advancing the role of company secretaries, generating thought leadership and assisting them to perform their duties,” said Mr Luckins.
William Buck said Mr Luckins' role as an auditor meant he had worked closely with company secretaries daily and understood their unique role in governance and leadership within a firm as well as being conduits between the board and the executive.
The position would see Mr Luckins lead a council of 18 people from multiple industries and professional skill sets, to promote the education and membership opportunities offered by the Governance Institute.
Mr Luckins said the role would also require him to assist in the advocacy and promotion of good governance throughout communities.
Managing director of William Buck in Victoria, Lindsay Holloway said the appointment was appropriate due to Mr Luckins' dedication to supporting post-graduate education and collaboration among professional bodies and industry sectors.
“Jeffery has previously held senior roles at CPA Australia, including as chair of the External Reporting Centre of Excellence,” said Mr Holloway.
“This new role is a continuation of his dedication to and leadership in the professional services environment.”
The Governance Institute of Australia has over 43,000 members across the country and advocates for a community of governance and risk management professionals from the listed, unlisted and not-for-profit sectors.
The institute said its mission was to drive better governance in all organisations which would in turn create a stronger, better society.
Mr Luckins was appointed Victorian State Council Chair of the institute for a two-year term.
