CA ANZ has appointed Professor Richard Holden as chief economist in an effort to strengthen the body’s economic position, knowledge, and insight.
The body said Holden was a highly regarded economist and would support CA ANZ’s advocacy and government affairs teams in longer-term economic commentary to build a better Australia.
Holden is a professor of economics at UNSW Business School, director of the Manos Innovation Lab in Education at UNSW Business School, co-director of the New Economic Policy Initiative and president of the Academy of the Social Sciences in Australia.
CA ANZ CEO Ainslie van Onselen said Holden’s appointment, effective this month, would broaden the body’s influence on key areas of policy reform.
“CA ANZ is often asked for its views on economic matters such as interest rates and inflation, especially heading into a federal election,” she said.
“Professor Holden’s engagement will enable us to participate more fulsomely in these public debates, strengthening our credentials and capabilities in this space.”
Holden was on the faculty at the University of Chicago and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology before joining CA ANZ.
According to CA ANZ, Holden received an AM and PhD in economics from Harvard University, with research focused on contract theory, organisational economics, law and economics, and political economy.
CA ANZ group executive of advocacy Simon Grant said the body was thrilled to welcome Holden to its team of advocacy experts.
“We look forward to working with Professor Holden over the coming months and increasing our advocacy efforts for policy reforms that matter most to our members,” Grant said.
