Appointments

BDO Australia has set its sights on expanding its risk advisory services with the appointment of two new partners.

The firm has revealed the appointment of two new partners, Sohail Dossa and Luke Eason, to help expand its ongoing efforts and enhancements to its risk advisory offerings.

Both Dossa and Eason are set to join BDO’s Melbourne office and mark a “key milestone” in its aim to help Australian businesses face growing complexities in managing emerging risks in a volatile environment.

The appointment followed BDO’s “ramp up” of its risk advisory services and offered to meet the increasing demand for expertise in digital transformation, cyber security and technology risk.

David Garvey, managing partner of BDO Melbourne, said the decision to expand the leadership team reflected the firm’s strategic commitment to supporting businesses when navigating the evolving risk landscape.

“With businesses facing an unprecedented level of complexity and uncertainty, expanding our capabilities in these critical areas is vital to helping our clients manage and mitigate risk effectively,” Garvey said.

Garvey also noted Dossa and Eason would bring a combined 40 years of experience to the leadership team, both with extensive knowledge in technology risk, cyber security and transformation.

According to BDO, these areas had seen a surge in demand due to the rise in cyber threats and regulatory pressures on Australian businesses.

Eason was appointed as the leader of BDO Melbourne’s advisory services practice and emphasised the current importance of understanding the evolving risk landscape and the need for proactive strategies.

“We have all seen significant changes in the geopolitical landscape, new regulations and ever-rising stakeholder expectations around risk management,” Eason said.

“Risk strategies that help stakeholders understand interconnectivity between risks and give them confidence that emerging issues can be rapidly identified and mitigated have never been more important.”

Sohail joined the partnership team as a transformation risk specialist, having previously led major projects in industries ranging from utilities to the public sector.

Sohail said there was a necessity for organisations to develop strategies that could adapt quickly to change.

“In today’s environment, organisations need risk strategies that are not only comprehensive but also highly adaptable to constant change,” he said.

“I look forward to helping our clients manage their most pressing transformation, technology and risk challenges.”

BDO Australia revealed the expansion of the Melbourne office’s risk advisory services came at a time when businesses across the country were under increasing pressure to stay ahead of new and evolving risks, from cyber attacks to regulatory shifts.
