Mid-tier launches new service line with PwC hire

Business

Led by a new hire from PwC, one mid-tier has put together a new team to capitalise on growing market demand for international trade services.

After 13 years working with PwC in customs and international trade services, Bill Cole will be leading BDO’s new international trade and excise team this year. Mr Cole also spent 13 years of his career in Australian customs and border protections services.

BDO is eyeing “significant opportunities” to grow this service line, given the increasingly complex nature of tax and compliance laws for businesses that operate cross-border, and on a multi-national level.

“There are a multitude of issues that can arise including bilateral and multi-lateral free trade agreements, trade policies, impediments and barriers, increased supply chain security and technology against a backdrop of a continually changing regulatory environment,” added David Garvey, managing partner of BDO’s Melbourne office.

This follows BDO’s appointment late last year of ex-KPMG manager Mark Schiavello, and confirmation of the mid-tier’s intentions to make big changes across the board to its digital systems and processes, marked with a “substantial investment” in technology and infrastructure.
