Crowe Horwath acquires firm in non-metro play

Business

A mid-tier firm has announced the acquisition of a Tasmanian boutique accounting firm as it seeks to boost its presence outside of metropolitan centres.

Crowe Horwath, part of Findex, has announced the acquisition of Burnie-based firm Platinum Accounting.

The acquisition, finalised on 1 March, will see the number of partners at the Crowe Horwath Burnie office rise to three, with 24 staff in total.

“Bringing the team from Platinum on board only strengthens our family office model in Burnie and regional Tasmania. We are excited to see the team reach new heights,” said Findex chief financial officer Matt Games.

“We’re always looking to grow as a business and grow our expertise on the ground, to ensure that each and every client has the best possible service available to them.”

Platinum Accounting manager Chivonne Hayes, who has now been appointed as associate partner, said work with existing clients would be undisrupted by the acquisition, and would allow the firm to better service the region.

“We love our clients and the work we do and we saw an opportunity to more readily assist our clients to meet their dreams by having access to greater resources,” said Ms Hayes.

“Crowe Horwath and Platinum had a meeting of the minds as it were and we jumped at the chance to continue to grow our expertise and what we could offer our clients.”

Crowe Horwath has been actively targeting the regional market, in a bid to drive its family office offering, acquiring a Grafton-based accounting and tax firm last year.
