Business

Insolvency firm Jirsch Sutherland has announced the acquisition of a Queensland-based advisory firm as it seeks to boost its safe harbour subject expertise.

Insolvency firm Jirsch Sutherland has acquired Brisbane-based firm GM Advisory, with founder Ginette Muller and her four staff joining.

Ms Muller and associate director Marcus Watters had previously worked with Jirsch Sutherland Brisbane partner Chris Baskerville.

Jirsch Sutherland managing partner, Sule Arnautovic, said the acquisition was a strategic move as it looked to tap into Ms Muller’s expertise in the area of safe harbour.

Ms Muller is a registered liquidator, having worked in the accounting, finance, insolvency and turnaround services for more than 20 years, starting her career in the banking and finance sectors.

“GM Advisory is an excellent fit for Jirsch Sutherland and the skills that Ginette and her team have will complement those of our Brisbane and overall national teams,” said Mr Arnautovic.

Ms Muller welcomed the acquisition and said she was looking forward to establishing her safe harbour expertise through Jirsch Sutherland’s reach.

“Safe harbour is a game-changer for the insolvency sector as it gives directors breathing space to develop a better options plan for their business without the fear of breaching strict insolvent trading laws,” said Ms Muller.

“Jirsch Sutherland’s expertise means that we should lead the field in this area – especially as the industry moves to crack down on unscrupulous and unqualified pre-insolvency advisers.

“I really like that the organisation has a strong regional presence, which is important for the type of work I do and want to do more of.”
