CA ANZ boss hints at joint accounting bodies reunion

The united lobby of Chartered Accountants Australia and New Zealand (CA ANZ), CPA Australia and the Institute of Public Accountants (IPA) may be reignited after lying dormant for six years.

Known as the joint accounting bodies, the collective work of the associations was intended to present a united lobbying front to government on behalf of the accounting profession.

The last formalised meeting between the three bodies was in 2012, but CA ANZ chief executive Rick Ellis said he’s in talks with CPA Australia and the IPA to get more collaboration underway in 2018.

“It’s fair to say we are up for a conversation to look at ways we can work effectively together as a profession, to ensure a consistency particularly in our advocacy that is important to our respective nations and communities,” Mr Ellis told Accountants Daily.

IPA chief executive Andrew Conway put a callout to CA ANZ and CPA Australia late last year with similar intentions.

“When you get a submission from a group of bodies saying the same thing, it’s far more powerful than disparate voices,” Mr Conway said in November last year.

“We need to do more as a profession from a collective point of view. We need to put public interest ahead of personal or professional body interest. There’s been too much about advancing individual brands, and not about advancing the brand of accounting,” he said
