A third capstone module will be available for students in 2018 and 2019, according to an announcement to candidates last week. Under the current timetable, some students finishing their technical modules in term two had to wait up to eight months to complete their final capstone unit.
This is the second time CA ANZ has been forced to implement a late fix. The association took a similar course of action in 2017, after some 900 students had their finish dates blown out following a restructure from semesters to trimesters.
The association told Accountants Daily in March a permanent fix was before the board, meaning backstop measures would no longer be required.
However, the structure of the timetable beyond 2019 is unclear. If it remains under the current structure, further temporary fixes will be required.
“This is our solution to the permanent timetable of 2018 and 2019. For 2020 and beyond, we will review and consult any changes with our stakeholders, as is usual practice, as we review how we deliver the CA Program to ensure it continues to meet the needs of candidates, employers and businesses,” a spokesperson told Accountants Daily this morning.
This move is unlikely to satisfy new or prospective students, who have previously told Accountants Daily that they need to factor in course duration and completion dates with their employers and personal lives.
The lucrative CA Program forms part of CA ANZ’s overhaul of its education department. CA ANZ will, for example, be shifting its attention from physical events to virtual learning, and broaden entry points beyond accounting degrees.
Enrolments for the CA Program have been steadily increasing in recent years. In 2015, CA Program enrolments stood at 20,741. As at November last year, they totalled 23,056.
