Chartered Accountants Australia and New Zealand has now partnered with Macquarie University to incorporate the professional study requirements of the CA Program into the university’s Master of Professional Accounting.

The partnership will allow students who undertake the postgraduate degree to become provisional CA ANZ members during their final year of study and be eligible to apply for CA membership upon successful completion of three years of approved employment.

The new master’s degree incorporating the CA Program will be available from Session 1, February 2021.

Macquarie University will be the first university in New South Wales to partner with CA ANZ, after the professional accounting body launched the pilot program in Western Australia earlier this year.

CA ANZ had first trialled incorporating its program into university curriculum with Victoria University in New Zealand last year.

“We’re thrilled to be furthering our ongoing relationship with Chartered Accountants ANZ by offering our students a unique and exclusive pathway to becoming CA qualified,” said Professor Rahat Munir, Macquarie Business School’s head of accounting and corporate governance.

“Students who complete the pathway as part of their MPA will gain a significant head start in their professional accounting careers.

“The embedded CA Program ensures students will receive extensive academic support while completing all the academic requirements, including the CA exams.”

CA ANZ group executive of education and learning Simon Hann said the partnership was part of the body’s plans to refresh its CA Program to attract new members.

“By broadening the entry pathways into the program, we are attracting the next generation of talent as well as increasing the diversity of the profession,” Mr Hann said.

“The strong theoretical foundation of the master’s degree go hand in hand with the technical and applied knowledge of the CA Program and connects students to a million-strong global knowledge network.”
