Deloitte buys AI specialist Intellify

The acquisition aims to bolster the professional services firm’s reach in the machine learning sector.

Deloitte Australia has acquired Intellify, a data science and machine learning consultancy, its sixth acquisition this year. 

Intellify, an Amazon Web Services and Databricks specialist, will be joining Deloitte’s professional services consulting arm.

Deloitte said the purchase aimed to give its AI, data, and machine learning commercial and public sector client services a competitive edge.

Intellify has more than 40 AI and machine learning developers and operates nationally across the banking, insurance, energy, government and retail sectors. Co-chief executives Matt Alamdari and Kale Temple will become Deloitte Consulting co-partners.

Deloitte national AI leader Dr Kellie Nuttall said: “The sky really is the limit when it comes to AI, data and machine learning, and technology’s potential to drive improved productivity and deliver hundreds of billions of dollars to our economy and future prosperity.

“The pandemic has encouraged the accelerated adoption of AI technologies as businesses and governments transition from experimenting with AI to embedding and scaling AI across all areas of operation. But it only delivers value when it is put into production and operated as a core system of the organisation.”

Intellify co-CEO and soon-to-be Deloitte Consulting partner Mr Alamdari said: “By simplifying the complexity of creating value from data, we build competitive advantage for our clients by delivering smarter, faster and more scalable decisions through AI and machine learning.”

Deloitte’s practice consists of more than 600 professionals nationally who offer AI, data and machine learning services to business and public sector clients, and Dr Nuttall said the company continued to expand.

“Deloitte research shows that over 90 per cent of Australian executives view AI as crucial to remaining competitive,” she said. 

“Australian organisations are getting serious about the critical role that AI, data and machine learning technologies will play in unlocking new sources of value and driving the next evolution of business transformation in our country.”

Databricks vice-president of partners Greg Taylor said: “More and more Australian organisations are leveraging data and AI in order to drive competitive advantage and we are now seeing the adoption of a lakehouse architecture – which brings efficiency to data scientists, data engineers, and business analysts on one platform – continue to accelerate.”

The company previously acquired Entrago in April, a firm specialising in advisory, consulting and delivery services.

The team at Intellify will formally join Deloitte on 23 May 2022.
