“I’m truly grateful and humbled to be named this year’s winner of the EY NextGen Women competition,” said Ms Liao.
“It was an honour to be part of such a talented group of young women from across the world and see the skills and insights they brought to the table.”
“Through the competition, I have gained a strong understanding of the EY Strategy and Transactions services and my own capabilities, both personally and professionally.”
Ms Liao was selected to participate in the global competition after winning the 2021 Oceania competition.
The early stages of the competition had participants involved in a hybrid program of virtual workshops before the competition culminated in an in-person, three-day event in London.
The event had the 23 global finalists work on a case study which provided them with insight into the world of transactions and highlighted the environmental, social, and governance (ESG) considerations for organisations.
As the winner of this year’s competition, EY said Ms Liao would have the opportunity to travel internationally to another global EY event and be mentored by a female leader in the firm.
EY Australia also confirmed she was in line for a graduate position in EY Sydney’s Strategy and Transactions practice.
Ms Liao said the main takeaway from her EY NextGen Women experience was the positive connections she was able to make with both her fellow finalists and EY leaders.
EY said the global competition was established to encourage the next generation of female graduates to consider a career in the field of corporate finance.
