Dentons has revealed its plans to grow its national tax practice with the appointment of partner Damien Bourke, senior associate Paul Thompson, and solicitor Ryan Steele to its Brisbane office.

Dentons Australia chair and Australasian region CEO, Doug Stipanicev, said the appointment of Bourke and his team built on the strategic importance the firm placed on building its tax disputes practice in Australia.

“Tax disputes continue to be an area of significant growth,” Stipanicev said.

“Damien is highly regarded in his field and his appointment expands the offering we are able to provide clients. I am delighted to welcome Damien and his team to Dentons.”

Dentons noted Bourke was a strategic addition to the team based on his 25 years of experience dealing with complex commercial litigation and alternative dispute resolution strategies.

Bourke specialised in tax litigation, tax controversy, ATO reviews and audits, mediation, settlement of disputes and estate planning.

Dentons said Bourke also had extensive experience managing the relationship between clients and the ATO.

Bourke said he was looking forward to bringing his experience and expertise to the Dentons team.

“The tax landscape in Australia is extremely complex.”

“I’m excited to be joining the Dentons tax team, which now boasts partner-level expertise in Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane.”
