Directors at Pacific Strategy Partners Darren McGowan and Kevin Altermatt are set to commence with KPMG as partners in May and will be joined by at least seven other staff members from the boutique strategy consultancy.
Mr McGowan and Mr Altermatt have each have more than 15 years’ experience advising Australian and multinational companies on corporate and business unit strategy. Both have strong consulting experience in the agribusiness, FMCG, consumer products and industrial manufacturing sectors.
“Joining KPMG represents an opportunity for our team to deepen the scale and depth in the current strategy practice,” said Mr Altermatt.
“We also see the great strategic fit that our senior Melbourne team has with KPMG’s Australian practice which will enable us to provide full-suite strategy services to clients.”
KPMG Australia’s head of advisory, John Somerville, said the move was another step in KPMG’s growth process and that the firm will continue to develop its strategy capability through selective acquisition and hiring of senior capability.
“We fully expect the strategy opportunity to expand as clients demand full strategy-to-execution capability aimed at improving business growth,” he said.
Growing its strategy capability is a significant priority for KPMG’s global network of firms, with a number of significant acquisitions and senior hires made in the past 18 months.
“A significant trend in the management consulting market over the past five years has been the growing dominance of large firms, continuing the move away from a fragmented field of players,” said Mr Somerville.
In line with this trend of consolidation, PwC recently completed the acquisition of global strategic consultancy Booz & Company, subsequently renaming the consultancy Strategy&.
The new name will be used alongside the PwC brand and “reflects the strength in strategy consulting that Booz & Company brings to the PwC Network”, said a PwC Statement.
