Australia’s two largest professional accounting bodies have signed agreements with The Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI) to strengthen cooperation between the accounting professions in both countries.

CPA Australia has signed a Mutual Recognition Agreement (MRA) with the Indian institute while CAANZ has signed Memorandum of Understanding (MOU).

Chartered Accountants Australia and New Zealand CEO Lee White said that the announcement is in line with one of the key deliverables of Chartered Accountants Australia and New Zealand, relating to providing greater global support for chartered accountants in Asia.
“Australia and New Zealand can provide assistance to and learn valuable lessons from Asia. With our economy linked to Asia and the growth in Asian markets, building meaningful partnerships is essential."
“We are excited at the prospect of implementing further initiatives and strategies in Asia, in collaboration with overseas members and global partners,” Mr White said.
CPA chief executive Alex Malley said he was very pleased to be signing the agreement on behalf of CPA Australia.
"This is about expanding collaboration with ICAI, creating a mechanism for our respective members to apply their expertise in critical global markets.
"The CPA designation is globally recognised as a hallmark of strategic and professional excellence and our members are heard and recognised in 121 countries around the world. This MRA further expands our global reach and relevance in an increasingly globalised world," Mr Malley said.
