The Australian Accounting Awards is an initiative of AccountantsDaily in partnership with Reckon.

Michael Masterman, news editor of AccountantsDaily, congratulated each of the winners on taking out an award.

“It’s a wonderful achievement to win an Australian Accounting Award. There was tight competition in all categories with a lot of very impressive entries submitted across the board,” he said

“Each of the winners really had to demonstrate excellence in what they do to take out their award.”

Mr Masterman said the high quality of entries led to a lot of exceptional individuals and firms missing out.

“There were a lot of really quality firms and exceptional individuals who unfortunately missed out this year,” he said.

“I’d like to give a very honourable mention to a few, including Bentleys, Count Financial, Andrew Webb Family and Business Accounting, Caunt and Lowbeer, Boyce Chartered Accountants, Quill Group Accounting, Accru Hobart.

“There are so many high-quality firms that I could mention. I’m already looking forward to next year’s awards to see who comes out on top.”

Sam Allert, managing director, accountants division at Reckon – principle partner of the Australian Accounting Awards – also congratulated the winners.

“On behalf of Reckon I’d like to congratulate all of the winners of the 2014 Australian Accounting Awards. There were some fantastic nominations across every category.”

“The Australian Accounting Awards highlight the impressive work undertaken by our industry professionals, demonstrating the continued value of accountants as trusted advisers. To all of the award winners, you should feel proud to be recognised by your peers and the judging panel for your successes throughout the year.”

Both Mr Allert and Mr Masterman thanked the judging panel for their involvement in the awards program.

“The judges did a really good job of picking winners from some very close competition,” said Mr Masterman.

“The feedback we received from them was that there are a lot of very impressive firms and individuals operating across the industry right now,” he added.

Some highlights from the Judges’ comments included:

George Vernados on PwC (Firm of the Year)
“In my view they are well ahead of the others in using metrics to remain focused and to constantly adjust their plans for success. Their process includes immediate feedback and constant checking for value ads. The process is very reminiscent of a modern retailer surveying customers as soon as possible after they have engaged with the business. True customer focus and customer-led strategy and execution.”

Ben Kingsley on David Knowles – Pitcher Partners (Thought Leader of the Year)
“David is someone the accounting profession can be extremely proud of and thankful for. He has dedicated himself to his profession and the development of the people working in this profession, who are all focused in getting the best outcomes for their clients through knowledge building and value adding to clients. His drive to educate and innovate at the macro level will leave a long-lasting impact and legacy for his profession.”

Doug Driscoll on Lilian Luu – Prosperity Advisers Group (Young Accountant of the Year)
“She is always looking to garner information in her personal quest for professional excellence. Despite being extremely busy, Lilian always seems to find time for others. She has worked extremely hard at getting to where she is today and serves as a great role model for any young accountant entering the industry.”
