Former Crowe Horwath exec lands at BDO

Business

A former Crowe Horwath executive has been appointed to a leadership role at mid-tier rival BDO, following the forced redundancies of Crowe Horwath’s entire C-suite by new owners The Findex Group.

By Staff Reporter 10 minute read

Greg Emsley, former chief information officer at Crowe Horwath, has been appointed to the same position at BDO.

Speaking to AccountantsDaily, Mr Emsley said that he, along with other senior staff, was promptly pushed out of Crowe Horwath after The Findex Group took charge earlier this year.

“Findex fairly promptly after the acquisition made all of the Crowe Horwath C-level executives redundant,” Mr Emsley said.

“In part, due to the fact they had overlap in a number of those roles,” he added.

However, Mr Emsley said he now sees this as a positive and is excited by his new role at BDO and the chance to work with a new team.

"It’s been a really pleasant experience and everybody I have met has been extremely welcoming. The firm’s got a great feel about it," he said.

Mr Emsley said he is looking forward to building on the great work already underway at BDO, which he described as innovative and forward-thinking.

“You are always conscious of your peers and what they’re doing, and BDO have been quite innovative and forward-thinking, certainly in their adoption of cloud technologies," he said.

“I started to talk to the leadership here and they have very strong desires to be an innovative business and really embrace digital,” Mr Emsley said.

He declined to compare the culture of the two firms, but said he believes in what BDO is doing and how the firm is doing it, saying it its culture is reflected in its reputation.

“Certainly, brand-wise, I think [BDO] has a stronger presence in the markets it operates in," Mr Emsley said.
