RSM Bird Cameron opens new office

Business

Mid-tier firm RSM Bird Cameron has announced an expansion into regional Queensland, opening an office in Toowoomba.

By Staff Reporter 10 minute read

Kim Hutchinson, national chairman, said the firm chose to open the new office in Toowoomba as an "ideal platform” from which to launch a Queensland regional offering.

“RSM Bird Cameron has extensive regional experience across other parts of Australia with expertise in a diverse range of industries, and a strong background in helping regional businesses grow,” Mr Hutchinson said.

“The Toowoomba office, and its clients, will benefit from personalised service from local practitioners combined with the services and backing from a national and international firm.”

The expansion comes as RSM Bird Cameron consolidates a two-year association with Toowoomba accounting firm Laird Advisory by merging the local practice with the national accounting firm.

Speaking to AccountantsDaily, Mr Hutchinson said Laird Advisory had been operating under a RSM Bird Cameron licence but will now be brought into the national network.

“The partner we have out there by the name of William Laird had established a practice out at Toowoomba and was operating ... under licence for the first 12 or 18 months but we have now integrated that practice into the whole national practice,” he said.

“Generally speaking, we don’t use licences – in actual fact, it’s very, very isolated; the first one we have used in the best part of a decade. Our modus operandi is usually to integrate all our practice acquisitions into the national model but in this instance, Will Laird was a Toowoomba accountant and he was just starting out so we used a licence as a bit of trial engagement.”

Mr Hutchinson said he is pleased with the way the arrangement has worked out and is open to boosting the firm’s regional footprint further.

“RSM Bird Cameron continues to develop its footprint in Queensland, complementing its comprehensive national offering," he said.

“[The firm] is also looking at future expansion in key regional centres in the south and west of Queensland."

Will Laird said he is excited to be working with RSM Bird Cameron’s national network to offer significant benefits to businesses in the Toowoomba region by providing them access to a wider range of services.

“The Toowoomba economy is strong, particularly because of the diversity of industries in the area," he said. "The region is also undergoing a large infrastructure program, which includes the new airport now in operation and the much anticipated second range crossing, making Toowoomba a future transport hub. All of this means opportunities for local businesses to grow – this is where RSM Bird Cameron can help.”
