Jason Porter has joined the Sydney office of SV Partners as a director.
Mr Porter told AccountantsDaily he is excited to join the more specialised practice of SV Partners at an exciting time for insolvency practitioners.
“Pitcher Partners is a multi-discipline firm so it does audit and tax and all those other things as well whereas SV is specialist insolvency,” he said.
“I've been in specialist firms before, I started at PPB Advisory and was at Taylor Woodings for five years as well so I know the environment and I guess there’s a bit of comfort in that.”
Mr Porter said he expects work to pick up in the insolvency space over the next year as the ATO looks to step up its debt collection efforts.
“The tax man has really started to ramp things up now, there are a lot of winding up applications and bankruptcy applications going through the courts and that will probably flow through in about six months’ time.
"I think they’ve decided they need to ramp it up; they just take policy decisions every now and then.
“There’s been a bit of publicity about it and some of the articles around town have certainly been talking about the amount of collectable debt the tax office has in that SME space so they've decided to be proactive and pursue it,” Mr Porter said.
