Business

KPMG Australia has continued its buying spree, announcing its ninth strategic acquisition in just over 18 months.

By Michael Masterman 10 minute read

The big four firm today announced the acquisition of Hands-on Systems, an IT business specialising in Microsoft solutions.

Hands-on Systems, established in 1985, will join KPMG’s Technology Enablement business and be known as KPMG Hands-on Systems.

KPMG Australia CEO Gary Wingrove welcomed the Hands-on team, calling the acquisition an important step in KPMG’s growth agenda that will help the firm to meet growing client demand for end-to-end technology transformational services.

“KPMG has traditionally consulted on the strategy side of transformation programs, with implementation being delivered by third parties," Mr Wingrove said. "However, clients with an eye to the future are looking for multi-disciplinary business partners.

“Hands-on Systems’ capabilities considerably enhance our systems integration, implementation and overall technology enablement capability. We can now provide end-to-end technology transformation services which, more and more, is what clients want,” he said.

John Munnelly, CEO of Hands-on Systems, said the chance to join a firm like KPMG and take advantage of the opportunities the move provides made the decision to join an easy one.

“We’ve been a successful business for more than two decades, providing quality Microsoft solutions that give businesses greater control and visibility of their performance, allowing them to make more informed decisions, drive down costs and grow with new technology.

“The chance to join a world class organisation like KPMG gives us an unprecedented opportunity to expand while still staying inside the Microsoft Partner Network,” Mr Munnelly said.

The acquisition also strengthens KPMG's global alliance with Microsoft, with KPMG today also being announced as a gold competency partner for Microsoft Dynamics in Australia.

The Hands-on acquisition is the ninth made by KPMG in just over 18 months as the firm looks to expand its service offering to meet changing client demand.

The firm’s recent acquisitions include social media risk consultancy, SR7; human rights and social impact consultancy, Banarra; the Melbourne team of Pacific Strategy Partners; an accounting practice in Karratha, WA; mining services consultancy Momentum Partners; SGA Property Consultancy; First Point Global cyber security business; and accounting and advisory business Hayes Knight (WA).

Commercial terms for the Hand-on Systems acquisition were not disclosed.
