Deloitte acquires identity management service

Deloitte has further strengthened its technological capability with the acquisition of an Oracle identity specialist group to combat identity management risks.

The founders and staff of Qubit Consulting will join Deloitte’s Cyber Risk Services practice on 1 October, bolstering the firm’s current Australian Identity Access Management (IAM) program.

The move follows the June acquisition of the 40-plus Oracle Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) Dataweave team.

“As the right identity access underpins safe digital transformation, the Deloitte Board and I are delighted to welcome the deep expertise of the Qubit team,” said Cindy Hook, Deloitte CEO.

Tommy Viljoen, Deloitte Cyber Risk Services leader, also lauded the acquisition.

“By bringing the Qubit team on board we now cement our capacity as a firm to deliver market leadership in identity and access management, offering real depth in Oracle IAM skills and systems which aligns with our global capability in this space,” he said.

Mr Viljoen noted that the largest business failures have been due to poor or inappropriate access controls.

“In financial services, think of an investment bank’s $500 million loss a few years ago, the result of one trader retaining inappropriate access protocols,” Mr Viljoen stated.

“It is therefore absolutely critical to get identity access right across all government departments, industries and communities so as people move around they can safely unlock the potential for Australia to meet our need for rapid, secure digital transformation and make these kinds of savings,” he added.

Andrew Hayes, Qubit partner, noted that the firm had been assisting Deloitte in delivering solutions for many years, and emphasised the importance of ensuring information access remained secure.

“It is vital to ensure that as organisations transform their digital networks that the right people have access to the right things at the right time, in a way that is efficient, while creating the best experience for both users and the business,” he said.
