ShineWing targeting big four partners

Business

ShineWing is looking to increase lateral partner appointments to expand its current capabilities and build further on its fast-growing expansion throughout Australia.

By Michael Masterman 10 minute read

As reported in AccountantsDaily, the Australian arm of the Chinese giant recently recruited Stuart Cioccarelli from Deloitte to lead its new Brisbane office and, according to managing partner Marco Carlei, lateral recruitment is set to continue.

With the firm looking to extend its capabilities in the corporate market, Mr Carlei said “organic” growth is the only real answer.

“It is in that corporate market that we are wanting to expand and there are not many firms out there that do have those existing capabilities in a smaller practice that could join us. The firms that have got those capabilities are the big four firms and maybe one or two of the second-tier firms,” Mr Carlei said.

“It’s all about ensuring that we have the right capabilities and talent to service our clients.

“Despite the fact that we have had discussions with various firms, I wasn’t convinced that the firms we were talking to did have those capabilities that we required,” he said.

ShineWing is instead looking to poach experienced partners from the big four, according to Mr Carlei – the very firms ShineWing is looking to take on.

“[We are targeting] lateral partner appointments as distinct from acquisitions,” he said.

“We have had quite a bit of interest and we continue to have a lot of interest. I’m spending quite a bit of time both in Sydney and Brisbane interviewing partners from other firms who are looking at joining us because they can see there is going to be significant – what we refer to as organic – growth, which provides opportunities not only for them but also their staff as well.

“If we ended up coming across that firm that had the capabilities and the presence in the marketplace in those sectors and industries that we are focusing on, then we would be more than happy to entertain serious discussions with them, but I’m not certain they’re out there,” Mr Carlei said.
