At a five-star gala dinner held in Sydney on 30 October, around 350 people watched 103 finalists eagerly awaiting the announcements of the winners of the 23 awards, with practitioners and firms from across the entire accounting profession recognised.

Amanda Kenafake of Power Tynan was awarded both the AccountantsDaily Excellence Award and Executive of the Year, setting the trend for shock and jubilation among the award winners.

"I'm just in shock – you can probably tell by how much I'm shaking right now," she exclaimed.

Chris Hooper, CEO of Accodex Partners, recipients of the Innovator of the Year Award, spoke of his delight to be openly recognised within the industry.

"When Accodex was announced as the winner I almost spat out my drink," Mr Hooper stated, while noting what the concept of innovation means within the current state of the industry.

"The industry is currently in a state of disruption," he said.

"Innovation is not an invention, it is a lot of small improvements stacked on top of each other. If you want your firm to be more innovative, stop sitting under a tree waiting for an apple to land," he added.
