Jennifer Brennan, director of learning and development for RSM, told AccountantsDaily the firm has identified strategic business development and greater integration of digital technology as its focus moving forward.
“Now that we have a strategic and consistent approach to leadership development, we would really like to focus, and have a similar focus, on developing strategic business development within the business itself,” Ms Brennan stated.
“We really need to increase our focus on our blended lending approach, and harnessing some of the emerging digital technologies,” she added.
According to Ms Brennan, the rise of digital technology has allowed for “flexible, bite-sized” learning processes, which satisfy the flexible development that younger generations within the firm are seeking.
Ms Brennan noted that personal and communication skills are of increasing importance within the industry and act as a continuing focus of professional development, aided by the blended learning approach.
“We need our people to be agile in their abilities to work within different client industries and have great consulting skills, and one of the things we’re doing in terms of a blended approach is to lift the coaching skills of people so that learning can happen on the job,” she said.
“When I say blended approach, we use digital delivery mediums such as e-learning, podcasts and webinars, and combine that with face-to-face workshops where we work on the application of that learning, and how it applies to client industries.”
