Moore Stephens defends its Australian operations

Business

Moore Stephens has defended its position in the Australian market amid rumours it may soon lose its Queensland office to a rival mid-tier firm.

Following speculation in the Australian Financial Review yesterday that Findex, the owner of Crowe Horwarth, is poised to take on the Moore Stephens Queensland office, the firm's CEO reached out to AccountantsDaily to defend the network's national operations.

Declining the opportunity to make a specific comment regarding a potential defection by the Queensland member firm at this time, Moore Stephens CEO Peter Antonius declared the network will be an ongoing success.

“Over the last 12 months, Moore Stephens Australia has undergone a significant transformation, culminating in a strategic review of its network to ensure universal partner alignment to a unified set of objectives, which we believe will position the network for sustained success," he said.

“As part of this transformation, we continue to welcome new firms and partners to the Moore Stephens Australia network, unified around a global commitment to building better businesses for our clients.”

While declining to comment on the recent speculation, Mr Antonius stressed the importance of the Queensland market to the mid-tier network.

“As a leading national provider of professional services to high-net-worth individuals, SMEs, large private companies and mid-tier listed entities, Queensland is an important market to the Moore Stephens network," he said.

“Moore Stephens is proud to have had a long association in supporting Queensland businesses and is committed to maintaining a strong presence across the state.

“With the right member firms in place across the network, Moore Stephens will be well positioned as one of Australia’s pre-eminent mid-market specialists.”

Moore Stephens has experienced a tumultuous few years with several offices, including both its Melbourne and Sydney operations, leaving the network. More recently, the Moore Stephens Adelaide Assurance team jumped ship to Pitcher Partners.

However, the network has also moved to shore up its position in key markets, recently taking on new firms in Adelaide and Melbourne, with a new Sydney office expected to be announced this year.
