Jeff Poe, founder at Platinum Professional Training, said that while the technical qualifications of accountants are typically very strong, their work experience is not in line with the expectations and reality of a modern-day practice.
"The business market space is about to be flooded with university graduates seeking employment," Mr Poe said.
"Unfortunately trading conditions are still tough for many businesses and employers are seeking something more from potential employees. They are looking for practical experience and the ability to get results fast,” he said.
"While a lot of new graduates have the relevant qualifications, they don't have the practical experience or the life skills to be able to hit the ground running.
"This is why work experience is so important for anyone undertaking study. When you graduate you offer potential employers two things - the necessary qualifications and the practical experience."
