Last week, the Minister for Revenue and Financial Services, Kelly O’Dwyer, and the federal member for Robertson, Lucy Wicks, announced that jobs will soon be advertised for positions within the new ATO office in Gosford, which is nearing completion.
“This new ATO office will see to the creation of 600 new jobs on the Central Coast,” Ms O’Dwyer said.
The jobs will be advertised in a phased approach over the next 12 months, with a variety of positions and contract arrangements available.
While defending the chance of redundancies, an ATO spokesperson told Accountants Daily that other locations will experience “attrition” as a result of the 600 new roles in Gosford.
“We do not expect job cuts but do expect to offset some of the required growth with natural attrition in other locations,” the spokesperson said.
The spokesperson also said that a number of existing ATO employees will be relocating to the Gosford office.

“The ATO conducted an expression of interest (EOI) process in December and January to find a limited number of existing ATO employees interested in being considered for at-level transfer to Gosford,” the spokesperson said.
“The EOI was run to ensure an appropriate number of experienced and trained staff are in the site to ensure a smooth transition to and establishment of the Gosford site.”
Meanwhile, the Department of Finance revealed last week that the functional and efficiency reviews have achieved gross savings of around $5 billion from 2014-15 to 2020-21.
Finance minister Mathias Cormann said that the savings, which include $29.3 million from the ATO, have been achieved through streamlining programs, improving span of control, system and compliance processes, and terminating legacy programs.
