ATO advises on year-end system availability

Regulation

The Tax Office has detailed a number of systems that will be available during its major system upgrade program during its annual office closure period.

By Reporter 10 minute read

The ATO is set to undertake its Activity Statement Financial Processing (ASFP) project during its annual closure period between 24 December 2019 and 2 January 2020.

The major system upgrade will see more than 17 million activity statements and franking deficit tax accounts move into the accounting system currently used for income tax.

As such, the ATO has advised that all Standard Business Reporting (SBR) including the practitioner lodgment service will be offline until 2 January 2020.

ATO Online Services, including Online Services for Agents, will also be unavailable.

Limited system access will remain for Single Touch Payroll, but records will not be processed or visible until the ATO’s systems are available in the new year.

Tax and BAS agents will continue to have limited access to SuperTICK Single request service (SRP) and payments via BPAY, EFT or Australia Post, although these will not be visible until the ATO’s system are available.

The ATO will continue to accept payments for the Small Business Superannuation Clearing House (SBSCH) between 17 and 24 December, but they will not be processed until 2 January 2020.

All lodgement activity will cease during the closure period, with the ATO advising that they may not process returns, activity statements and forms lodged after 16 December until the new year.

Lodgement deferral requests processed after 13 December 2019 may not display on clients’ records until the new year.

The ATO will send its last tax return status email on 18 December, with the emails set to resume on 8 January 2020.
