The ATO has revealed it has resolved an error in its newly launched text message alert service for trustees that was flagged by a number of SMSF industry professionals.

SMSF practitioners reported that the errors appeared to stem from lodgement of SMSF annual returns, which triggered a change in the SMSF’s electronic service address (ESA) that then generated a mistaken alert to the affected trustees.
But today, the ATO announced that the system error triggering the SMS alert has been resolved.
In addition, the “Invalid ESA” message that was displayed in Online services for agents has also been fixed.
“Text and email alerts relating to electronic service address were previously sent incorrectly to a small number of SMSF trustees,” the ATO said.
“SMSF trustees and their representatives can be assured that any alerts or messages received are being correctly issued.”
