The Tax Office has launched its new Career Kickstart program aimed at providing high school graduates with a 12-month contract at its Townsville, Gosford, Newcastle and Geelong offices.
Successful candidates will undergo formal training before undertaking work experience as an administration officer or a client experience officer. Applicants can also expect a competitive salary, the ATO said.
ATO assistant commissioner Alison Stott said the new recruitment program is aimed at opening up career pathways for year 12 graduates or those considering a gap year.
“This new program really rounds out our suite of entry-level employment programs, along with our award-winning Graduate program, our Evergreen Indigenous program, our University Partnership Employment program and our Opening Doors program,” Ms Stott said.
“As we know, uni is not for everyone. And some school leavers who are keen for tertiary study like to take a break in between school and uni, so we think our program will appeal to both of these groups who are looking to get a foot in the door.”
Applications for the 2021 Career Kickstart program open on 18 May and close on 2 June. Successful applicants will commence in August.
Ms Stott said the new program would also help school leavers explore the different potential career pathways at the ATO.
“There are around 19,000 employees at the ATO, with more than 1,200 working out of these four offices alone,” Ms Stott said.
“Some people may be surprised to know we’re not all accountants! We also have opportunities in everything from IT to human resources, through to marketing and communication and customer service.”
