Regulation

CPA Australia has launched a new program aimed to deliver personalised support for business sustainability, ethical requirements and professional development.

CPA Australia’s new Best Practice Program is to replace the Quality Review Program.

The program up-ends the traditional quality assessment model for practitioners, which many found to be personally and professional draining, and offers a fundamental change to the way quality reviews are approached.

Dr Jane Rennie, general manager of external affairs at CPA Australia believes the program will provide more support for practitioners.

“The CPA Australia Best Practice Program shifts the focus from a quality checking exercise to a quality collaboration. That’s more than just words. Practitioners will no longer be left on their own to figure out what they need to improve. Now, they’ll be provided with real examples of best practice and strategies for implementing them,” Dr Rennie said.

“The program’s been designed to be very transparent and accessible. During a review, the practitioner has access to a portal through which they can share documents, track progress and see any findings. The process is also much faster than it used to be. We expect most reviews will be completed in a few weeks.”

Additionally, Dr Rennie outlined how the program acknowledges the pressures accounting professionals face and offers a flexible way to conduct assessments and reviews.

“The program recognises and accommodates the workload pressures accountants are under. Depending on circumstances, practitioners may attend meetings virtually, rather than in-person. Flexible timing has been built into the system, allowing practitioners to select from a range of review dates that suit them best,” Dr Rennie said.

“We’re confident that adopting this model will do more than just improve quality reviews, it’ll increase practitioners’ awareness of leading practices amongst their peers.”
