SMSF service provider SuperConcepts has announced it will provide free assistance to trustees who have been affected by Australia’s bushfire crisis.

In a statement on Friday, SuperConcepts said it would be providing pro bono services to affected SMSF trustees, including liaising with the ATO around compliance and lodgement related matters as well as recreating damaged or destroyed fund records.

A disaster relief package would also be available for clients directly impacted by the bushfires that allowed them to waive certain fees.
The firm said these services would be available to SuperConcepts clients as well as members of the public who had suffered from a major financial or personal loss as a result of the fires.
SuperConcepts chief executive Lara Bourguignon said the initiative was designed to help SMSF trustees affected by the fires get back on their feet.
“We have experienced technical staff in all states across many of the affected areas who would like to help people get back on their feet,” Ms Bourguignon said.
“SuperConcepts is passionate about supporting Australians through tough times and we’ll help those affected by this disaster however we can.”
The announcement comes following recent confirmation by the ATO that SMSF lodgements would not be granted an automatic extension as part of the regulator’s relief services for taxpayers affected by the bushfires.
In a recent LinkedIn post, ATO assistant commissioner Dana Fleming stated that the automatic extensions granted for bushfire-affected postcodes “apply to activity statements and payments only”.
“If you need more time to deal with lodgement of your SMSF, you will still need to ask for a deferral, usually via your tax agent,” Ms Fleming said.
