Last week, Pitcher Partners Perth confirmed the appointment of Birgitte Hebiton, formerly of KPMG, as director of taxation services.

Ms Hebiton has almost 20 years’ experience in tax advice, assisting privately-owned businesses, multinationals and listed companies across a wide range of industry including property, funds management, agri-business and mining.

Ms Hebiton told Accountants Daily that there is currently a significant focus on international tax policy following the work undertaken by the OECD and its recommendations set out in the BEPS Action Plan, which Australia recently signed.

“In Australia and internationally, the country-by-country reporting rules are being implemented and tax authorities around the world will have access to significantly more information on multinational organisations cross-border arrangements,” Ms Hebiton said.

“In Australia, the ATO are keenly focused on multinational companies paying their fair share of tax, bolstered by the introduction of new anti-avoidance provisions, Diverted Profit Tax rules and the Multinational Anti-Avoidance Law (MAAL), and the recent outcome in their litigation against Chevron.”

Ms Hebiton plans to boost Pitcher Partners Perth’s tax services by supporting clients with managing their Australian and international tax risks, including complying with the new country-by-country reporting rules.

Pitcher Partners Perth managing director, Leon Mok said Ms Hebiton’s appointment enhances the firm’s expertise in taxation services.

“Birgitte’s appointment bolsters our corporate tax team, and continues our approach of broadening the services and skills we offer in taxation areas,” he said.

“Our Perth experts have an unparalleled understanding of the mid-tier market and Birgitte’s skills are particularly valuable given her experience working across sectors. Our clients demand deep technical thinkers with broad expertise and that’s what we offer.”
