Former partners in Pitcher Partners’ Brisbane office, Adele Townsend and Chris Ball, this week moved to BDO, taking a total of eight staff with them.
Speaking to AccountantsDaily, BDO Brisbane managing partner Tony Schiffmann said he was pleased to welcome the new recruits, claiming they will help to grow an already strong practice.
“We had a substantial tax practice, we already had five partners in that area and certainly we have had a long history in the space, but we are always looking for good practitioners in certain areas and tax is one of them,” he said.
Mr Schiffmann also hinted that the Brisbane-based practice is on the lookout for more lateral hires as they look to continue strong growth, which he said was around nine per cent for the year to December 2014.
“Growth is fundamental to our DNA and as such we're in the marketplace constantly looking for areas to grow,” he said.
“If I had to prioritise, tax and advisory are two areas that we see as high priority, where we see growth in the short-term. But I would never exclude any areas - there is always opportunity to grow”.
While BDO is obviously willing to poach partners from rival firms, Mr Schiffmann said he would also consider other growth strategies.
“We would never exclude a larger transaction but probably in the current market a smaller tuck-in type of acquisition is probably easier to execute and comes with some lower risk," he said.
"If you can bring a firm in that either complements what you’ve currently got and bulks up an area, or you introduce a new area, it sort of suits both strategies. It’s sort of natural."
