While servicing both public and private sectors, the new studio will open in Canberra to specifically target the rapid increase in demand for transformational digital services in government.
Frank Farrall, Deloitte Digital lead partner, noted that over the last two years digital disruption has moved from the edges to the core of the Canberra economy.
“The impact of digital disruption on the ACT economy is disproportionately large – 86 per cent of the ACT economy is facing ‘big bang’ disruption, compared with 69 per cent of Australia as a whole,” said Mr Farrall.
“In part this is due to the sheer size of government in the ACT, directly accounting for 30 per cent of the local economy, and influencing much more through the consumption of goods and services. This affects not just Canberra, but every jurisdiction in which federal government operates.”
According to Deloitte, the recent strong emergence of cloud services, big data, and the broad-scale consumerisation of IT has given rise to the notion of 'digital government'.
“Digital Government is fundamentally user-driven and brings with it a more mature approach to digital service design and it shifts the focus from online forms to the redesign of government itself – around a digital-centric operating model.
“Digital provides new opportunities to change the ecosystem in which citizens, businesses and other organisations interact with government and each other,” said Mr Farrall.
Deloitte Canberra managing partner Lynne Pezzullo said the launch of the Canberra-based digital studio reinforces the firm’s commitment to digital innovation.
“The Canberra digital team will bring many different perspectives to clients’ challenges and opportunities, combining an established footprint in mobile, web, e-commerce, social and content management with the strength of a global network of digital studios,” Ms Pezzullo said.
Deloitte Digital already has one of Australia's largest digital design and implementation service offerings, combining creative capabilities with business and technology expertise.
The establishment of Deloitte Digital’s Canberra studio brings the number of Deloitte studios worldwide to 21.
